The Boys Trip

While the girls were in Cleveland the boys took a road trip down to Mobile, AL. They had a great time touring the battle ship, submarine, going to the movies, going to a science museum, eating out, playing at the beach and enjoyed mild weather. Grant had a great time and talked about it for days. One night he asked, "Mom, what would you rather do: see a movie, go on a battle ship, go on a submarine or go to a museum [but that wasn't the most fun, because it was too crowded]." I answered they all sounded like fun and asked what he liked the best. "The battle ship!"

Here are a few pictures Mark took with his iphone:

My Boys

We signed Grant up for basketball, but it doesn't start until January. Sometimes he and Mark will go outside to practice dribbling.

Hero

Yesterday there was a hero in our home. I'm not talking about the occasional Hero show we watch on Monday nights, but a real live daddy one. Mark was a hero to two people; his wife and son. For whatever reason no one got very much sleep the night before so Mark stayed home from work (worked a little from home). In the morning we went for a walk together and Mark ran with Grant, which Grant LOVES. We did some house stuff and came home for a lazy afternoon. I was super tired and went to take a nap. I hear Grant giddy with excitement and Mark was taking him outside to play soccer with his ball. They left, leaving me a quiet place to sleep and relax.

When I woke up, still dead silence. It had been quite a while and the boys were still out. Mark called and they were down at the sand pit playing. I walked down to meet them, camera in hand. Grant was in pure heaven, sand in face and all.

We headed back home a while later, me commenting that all dads should get a paid day off mid week to be with their family. Grant was relishing in the one on one and me, thoroughly enjoyed my peaceful few.

Now comes the second and heroic act that warranted this post. As we were walking back around the lake Mark accidentally dropped Grant's ball in the lake. Immediate meltdown proceeded from our four year old and crocodile tears. This was his special Halloween ball Gigi had sent him. He cried and cried and I couldn't help but see the scene from Cast Away where Tom Hanks cries, "Wilson! Wilson!" Grant cried, "Call the police! Call the police!" After attempting to get it with a stick, which only further pushed it out to the lake, Mark did the unthinkable or I guess in a heroes mind the right thing.

I'm saying, "Don't get any of that water in your mouth!" (There are no swimming/diving signs all over the place and the water looks disgustingly filthy.)

What a hero!

Thanks Dad! I love you to the moon and back!

Mr. Mom

This arrived the other day in the mail:

GREAT MOM AWARD Let is be known from this date MARK GREENFIELD is duly recognized as the Great Mom that she has been to her child. Furthermore, let it be down that this award has been bestowed in appreciation of her daily hugs and kisses. For her patience when healing bee stings and scraped knees. For her outstanding ability to maintain a sense of humor, and the courage she has displayed when presented with frogs, spiders and other such formidable creatures. And especially for the unsurpassed hours of love, laughter and learning she has so generously shared reading books with her child.

Wow! Great job Mark! How do you do it? Work at Boeing all day and accomplish the above listed too, while I sit around and eat my Ben & Jerry's lounging on the couch.

I do have to admit the last line is right on. Mark loves to read books to Grant and always has and Grant probably loves it even more. There was a lot of Father-Son time this weekend as I had fun at a friend's baby shower and then relished in my quiet time last night (watched re-runs of Law & Order) while Mark took Grant to a hockey game. What a great pair! And yes, Mark is a great "dad".

The day Grant was blessed.
