My 1000 Post?! A Giveaway!

This is my one thousandth post!

I can hardly believe it! I started blogging July 2006 and at the time had no idea where it would take me. It has become my creative outlet, place to share and grow in photography, journaling, reconnecting and keeping up with old and new friends and keeping those far away up to date with us! There was a learning curve that came with blogging and I think I have found my balance-I thoroughly enjoy sharing it with you.

My reconnection with photography can be attributed mainly to blogging-strange, but true. So, because of that and you I wouldn't be where I am today with a green field photography, I would like to give away a free photo session! To enter, just leave a comment and I will draw one winner. Don't live in Alabama...keep reading I will be in Oregon and Washington in the coming months.

Details:
Free 45 minute photo session [children or family-one family only please]. Includes CD of 20+ edited images.

Location: One outdoor location in Madison, AL exclusively. If you live outside Madison [ie: Huntsville or surrounding area] you may choose a location in Madison.

If you live in Corvallis, OR or surrounding area, I will be in town the end of May thru the beginning of June. [Would need to travel to a Corvallis location.] Or, Covington, WA [Seattle area], I will be in town the beginning of June. [Would need to travel to/near a Convington location.]

Date: To be determined. [Must be flexible for weekday or weekend session.]

To Enter: Leave a comment and if you're feeling adventurous tell me: What color scheme would you go with if you were to get your family photographed today? (I'm very curious and maybe I'll get some ideas...) I will draw a winner Monday, March 9th 7 a.m. (Central Time).

Tell your friends & neighbors-good luck and thanks for stopping by and all your blogging support! I look forward to photographing you!

Although I love your sessions, that's not why I am leaving a comment. I just have to say Congrats!! You deserve such an awesome chance to let out your skills and talent!! Which are abundant!! I love your photos. They are what inspired me to try to improve on my own for our family's posterity and records. Thank you!!!

A very pioneer womanish thing to do! LOVE IT.

Congrats! That's a whole lot of posting and you are an AMAZINGLY talented photographer!

Right now I really love a lot of the Spring colors especially blue green with white! It feels refreshing! ;)

This is such a thoughtful, nice idea Kim. It really is amazing how blogging has influenced our lives- something that initially seemed just for fun has developed into a method of reconnecting and strengthening existing friendships. An added bonus that it led you to your photography.

Well, I'm nowhere near where you will be for photo sessions but just for fun.... There are a few color schemes I think would look nice. Because my family has pale skin I think blue's look nice. (and we have blue eyes) I am also a casual girl so Ry and I would be in pants and Sage in a sundress or skirt maybe.

Side note- I LOVED the photoshoot you did of the family in different colored converse sneakers. That was adorable.

Sign me up! I have a brand new baby that I just can't get enough pictures of!
You are so talented...I've really enjoyed reading your blog :)

Sandra said...

Congratulations, Kim, on your amazing and beautiful blog. I check it every day! Please select me. I would love some new pictures of B, K, ad Lil Man. They are growing up so fast.

Cari said...

OH, Oh, pick me, pick me, pick me!! Ha! I have 2 gorgeous kiddos that the camera just loves.

Like Sharon, I would do something springy, light blues and greens with khaki or white.

Stefanie H said...

Oohh wow wow wow! I'd love to have a shoot with MY side of the fam (so would they!) haha... if we were to ACTUALLY win.. the color sceheme would probably be... the classic all black shirt with jeans perhaps...

What a wonderful giveaway. We would love to win!!! I have really enjoyed seeing your incredible and amazing photographs. Our daughter is just a little older than your Grace. We actually live in Maryland right now, but we are hoping to plan a trip back to Corvallis this August. We have adopted our two kids last year, and we are planning on going to the temple sometime in August. We would be super excited to win!!!

This is such a great idea! & congratulations on the 1000th post! :) I'm only at like 58... haha! I would love to win bc as a fellow photographer myself, I never get to have any pictures taken with me in them. I would love to get some cutesy pictures of my boyfriend & I made! As for colors... it all would depend on the location. Bold colors for something more "urban" and softer colors if we wanted to take advantage of some great fields around Madison! :)

Holy Cow, 1000, that is awesome! I so enjoy your photography and thank you for always humoring me and my questions.

I would probably pick bright colors that maybe werent too matchy-matchy. I REALLY LOVE GREEN, any shade of green!

I'm so excited to see how many comments you get.

I really liked Sara's Christmas picture, which was red and black. I'm thinking of the same color scheme for our photo shoot. And I think we will be doing black converse for all the boys and red flats for me. It's scary how much thought I've already put into what we will wear.

Kim congrats on such a succesful blog and business. Your work is beautiful. I'm entering just because I hope you'll come to Texas one day when I"m wearing white. :)

This was worth the build-up, Friend. I am really proud of you. What a wild thing blogging has become; I've surprised myself with how much I enjoy it.

I can't wait to see the number of comments you get. Congratulations, dear Kim!

Also, my three girls will be in peach this Easter. Pretty pastels . . . pretty girls . . . a pretty fantastic photographer . . . a pretty great combination.

Lacey Freeman said...

How awesome that you've made it to 1000 posts! I absolutely love looking at your blog...your photos just make me so happy!

I, of course, love the classic black. Black is my favorite color to wear. But with the weather as it is right now, I think I would do fresh springy colors on my boys.

I have two adorable little monsters that love your camera...and I love your talent! :)

Anonymous said...

Wow, I can't believe this is your 1000th post. I remember reading your first post :) So of course I hope that I win, but I'll buy a session if I don't because I've been waiting for you to come back to Washington! What colors would I choose? Well, I'd use this as an excuse to buy Anthropologie-style dress, which would probably be bright, so I'd dress the family in the same theme - bright colors.

Thanks for the invite!
Okay, so you would think that after finally getting a boy, that I would be motivated to run right out and get family photos taken...ummm NO. Actually, I think it's the number 5 that is a little overwhelming with a camera that has me scared to do it! So your email totally got me excited with the chances of winning an amazing photo shoot with you! Whoever the winner is... YOU ARE SO LUCKY!!!

co•lin fam•i•ly said...

Wow, this is going to get a lot of feedback.

Besides lime green (which I don't think Victor would go for) I'm drawing a blank. What I'm imaginig is actually barefeet and jean in or near mud puddles...

So excited to see you this Summer...

Amy, red flats AWESOME!

TamBaum said...

I think we are going to do red, white and blue. I am hoping if I find the right outfits it won't look too 4th of July-ish. Maybe I will throw some yellow in too... Easy colors for an extended family to match.

danakat said...

Well, you know me and my slim to non-existant chances in any contest, but I still smile and go for the challenge every time. :)

In my eyes, you will always be the blog original! You (literally) got me set up and started, and I love it so much! It is a blessing and likewise, we are all blessed to have been able to sneak a peek into your ingenius mind and talent. You share so freely and willingly. You are a wonderful example and friend.

Congrats on the 1000th post! wow, that's incredible! Can't wait to see you guys and to meet lil Gracie!

As for color schemes, always at a loss-usually love all black, but might have to go with Brown and an accent color of some sorts-something springy like green, blue or pink.

I would love to have you photograph our family! My kids are changing so fast as they move into being teenagers.

I would leave color suggestions up to you...that is one talent you definitely have!!

Wow, 1000! I love reading your blog!

I would love you to photograph us for spring! I am in love with green and white or the blue/green and white combo. Lots of green grass and blue skies with white fluffy clouds in the background too.

1000. What a journey! I'm finding blogging is a great way to do all you said too. Kind of funny how it's all worked out. I really do love your photos and look forward to the journey to 2000.
I've always loved American reds, whites and blues, but some day I'd love to have you do a shoot with us in white shirts, jeans, Alabama green grass and blue skies. Congratulations Kim!

1,000!! Wow! I like to think I'm special because I was there for the start of all this! You're amazing and I'm entering this drawing even if I'm in Utah. Why? Because we just might be in WA in June. Who knows. Miss you!

Jocelyn said...

Color scheme? I would say white. With the rich greens of Washington as a beautiful background :)

Wow! You've been blogging for a long time! Congrats on 1000. I never win anything, but one of these days we are so going to book you... maybe early summer. I think about it all the time but just don't want to be in them yet! ha. Totally working on that!

I've been thinking about blues and browns...

Hi Kim,

Happy #1,000 post! This deserves a celebration especially coming from someone who can't even begin with a #1 post. Your work is inspiring and I hope you know how incredibly talented you are. This is a very fun giveaway and I can't wait to see who the lucky winner is.

Wow, happy 1000! That's very exciting. I'm in Tami's ward in Covington, WA so I check your blog every now and then. You take amazing photos. I'm in awe. I would love to have you take ours when you're up here if I win. I would choose blue because my husband has very nice blue eyes and I'm otherwise indecisive!

Rebekah said...

As like Dana, it's not often that I win such things, but I would just love a few good pictures with my family before I leave off to Niagara University in the Fall. I really do so enjoy your blog, the talent that you hold is astounding. I am often at a loss for words at your natural talent to capture those magical moments in life.

I do like blue jeans and white t-shirts, as well as a blues, greens, and whites theme. :]

HI....I've gotten on your blog a few times-beautiful pictures! I'm friends with Tami up here in Covington. I think our family would go with either blue or black as our color scheme...oh it'd be so fun to win something finally :)

Count the Young's in for your drawing!! We will have our little boy by then so there would be FIVE of us!! CRAZY!! I have no idea about a color scheme...I would have to have your input given that there's a black guy, a white girl and three mixed up kiddos :)

Hi Kim,
Congrats on your 1,000th post! What a thoughtful giveaway!!

I am amazed by your talent! It has been so fun to watch your blog (and photography) evolve into such a masterpiece.

Definitely count in the Zahlmann's! I would love to win!! We have missed you every time you've been in Corvallis (I think the last time we had sick kiddos).

Colors...with everyone having dark hair (and most of the kids/hubby having darker skin), I would probably go with red. Although I would love to do a blue/brown combo.

Can't wait to find out! Thank you!

Jana said...

Blogging since 2006? You're a true pioneer! Happy 1000th! I would love to win your giveaway. Our home's walls are lacking some great family photos. We'd probably do green or brown or white or all of the above :)
BTW, I'm near Tami too.

Oooh, black and white comes to mind because it's always so classic, and classy, but I'd have to give it some thought! I've been into chocolate lately, so maybe some yummy brown?

ONE THOUSAND?! Wowzers! I haven't even hit 200... I was a late blog bloomer.

I would do crisp whites with greens.

Linnie said...

Oh, what a fantastic milestone, one thousand! It's truly exciting!

Colors, pinks and purples come to mind. Gently yet bright vivid colors that show life. I'm really not sure...

Jared and Lydia said...

Okay! Are you serious! 49 comments. I am thinking I better make a date for my families photo shoot before you are fully booked in Corvallis. What do you still have available?
To answer the question I would go with Oregon green grass and blue sky forever. Maybe a little dark wet mud. My kids being a bonus in the photo.
Way to be!
Lydia

I am SERIOUSLY loving the fact that mine is the 50th comment.

Apparently you've got some fans Kim, not to mention an abundance of talent. We love you!

Color scheme? I'm a black and white girl. Boring, but classic.

Clarissa said...

Oooh! I hope we get drawn! :) I look at your photo blog all the time through friends blogs and have been wanting to get an appointment with you when my hubby is done with school this semester!

Not sure about the color scheme. We love yellow b/c it's so light and cheerful!

Bill said...

As I approach retirement from the military, I really want to do family pictures with me in my uniform. We've never done it before and I am not sure why so I guess a patriotic background would be fitting or maybe a big map of the world!

shari said...

Congratulations on your photography success and your
1000th post! You don't have to add me in the contest but we would wear Browns,Robin egg blue and a light green with maybe some Orange-Red accenty stuff. I can't wait until you take Asher's Pics!!

Sandy said...

You are an exceptional artist/photographer. I have been watching your blog. Great work! I have so been wanting a setting with my entire family. I think I would go with blue or maybe red.

Hooray Kim! Look at all these comments. I'm putting beginning of June on my calendar for visiting with Kim. When will you be in WA? We'll have to plan some fun things and I'll try to get you over to this side of the sound to see how pretty it is! Is Grant done with school by then? I guess he started super early. I have no idea what colors I would wear--something with color. love you, court

Shonda said...

Congratulations, Kim! I can't believe you've made it to 1000! That's actually mind boggling for me! But, really, an accomplishment! I'm so glad you've done it. I feel like have a real blogging buddy out there! Hmmm, if I could pick ANY color scheme...I would probably go with turquise and whites, with little splashes of red!

Julia Shinkle said...

I would love for you to come to our place in Dallas and get some photos of our farm, the kids and hubby and me.

So our color scheme would probably be "mud".

I am a friend of Kim Hodson's by the way! Congratulations on the Blog!

Ditto Family said...

Yeehaa!!! What a fun accomplishment! What would Mr. Sherwin and MacPherson say of your talent today?

Hum...I'm thinking blues and khakis on a brick wall. Oh wait, I actually saw this wall of a store the other day that I think would be super cool for a photoshoot. It is covered in bright colored graffiti. In that case, probably jeans or black to stand out from all the color behind us.

Way to go YOU TALENTED WOMAN!!!

Jensen Five said...

You can count me in on this little contest! As far as color schemes, I am really liking key lime green, black, and white.

My fingers and toes are crossed my comment gets picked. Kim, you have an amazing talent (and beautiful family).

I am friends with Tami too. Let's see - I would go with tan, white and yellow, with maybe a little accent of green.

I would love to win! I am a photographer myself and, as I'm sure you know, I take lots of pictures for other people and have none of my husband and me.

Congrats on your 1000th post!

Stephanie said...

I'm a friend of Brenley W's. She attached a link to your blog. Congrats on 1000 posts... wow! I just hit 100~~~
We would LOVE to be the lucky winners of the Oregon shoot. My husband and I have not had any pictures done since our wedding~ once the kiddos come it is all about capturing their moments. ;o) There are five of us... colors: hmmmmmm, blues, pinks, whites.

Kari said...

I don't even know if I can hope to be so lucky to have a free photo session from you! But, I'll take the chance. Pick me!

I'd probably do a light blue, khaki, and either gray or brown color scheme.

Sara Jean said...

Please of pretty please choose my name! Color scheme...?? Man alive. I guess I'd go with my favorite colors which were also my wedding colors- sage, grass, and moss green tones.

Special K said...

Wow, what a great deal! I'm a friend of Tami's and live in Covington - read about this drawing on her blog. As for color schemes I love earthy tones, outside pictures. We haven't had family pictures done in 5 years - sad I know but my own fault - just haven't taken the time. Thanks for giving us this possible chance at such a fun opportunity!

color scheme: green :)

Wow- 70 comments already! You're pretty popular ;-) At the moment, I really don't know what kind of color scheme I would do (sorry I'm not much help), but I love everything I have seen you do, so I totally trust your opinion! I have one gorgeous little girl and another one on the way very SOON!

Congrats on 1000! I have a hard time keeping up with my own blog, but I'm really good at keeping track of others'! Love looking at your blog each day! I'm a little obsessed with navy blue and green with a touch of white, gray and RED!

Angie said...

Wow 1000 posts that is quite an accomplishment! I am in Oregon but I dont have anyone but me you could take pictures of. I would go with red, black and white. Congrats!

Elissa Minor Rust said...

1000--congratulations! You know how badly you'd love to photograph your former roommate's kiddos. :) I'm not a color scheme kind of gal, to be honest, and don't like the kids to match in pictures so much (except for one small element like different knit hats or somesuch). I think it would be cool if each kid had a different bright solid color on or something.

I have loved reconnecting with you through your blog.

Mandi said...

Congratulations! I truly think you are amazing and can't wait to have to photograph my boys again in the future.... if I were to win I would go with whites and blues or greens. My boys eyes look great with those colors! :)

Keeping my fingers crossed :)

I don't usually win anything, but since you're related to Tami, and I'm so lucky to know Tami, maybe it'll be my lucky day. I have all boys so I'd go with pink for our color scheme. What do you think? Any ideas to pull that off? You are a pretty amazing photographer.

Would love to have pics to commemorate the current life stage. I am seriously color challenged (strange thing for a quilter to say, huh?) so would look to you for color ideas so hope you get some good ideas from the above posts!

Well, with 85 comments so far, my chances of winning are still better than the lottery! Your photography I find absolutely stunning. As a prefered color scheme I'd either go with greens and blues, springlike, but with the sharpness that your photography emphasizes, or black and white. Not the photos turned black and white, but the clothing and the background minimalistic. But what do I know, I'd go with whatever you suggested anyhow!

If I comment twice, does it double my chances of winning?
