Macro Monday - reading
I have found the joy that so many of you have had for years as of late. Reading. I have never been much a leisure reader and simple is always better for me. I have been checking out books lately...starting with some very easy reads by Nicholas Sparks, several youth books by Richard Peck and a recent one Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson. I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone by saying this, but I did read the first book of a series so many of you have been raving about...Twilight. I'm sorry I just don't get the craze and have lost the desire to even pursue the sequels. I just finished Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro, which was quite good...I remembered watching the movie years ago, but couldn't remember anything of the story. And of course, other good reads have been my pregnancy and labor books.
What have you been reading? Any good suggestions?

You didn't offend me =)! I haven't even started it. I didn't want to one to not like it and ruin it for all the Twilight love sick women :)....I will let them enjoy it.
It is snowing today and nearly all schools are closed. Pretty sure all of my plans were just thrown out the window.
Oh my, I'd like to think that the Nicholas Sparks book that I brought in October stimulated this new found interest. : )
I've got a wonderful author that I just can't get enough of...Bevery Lewis. Just make sure that you check out number one from any of her series. She is a wonderful, clean, Christian author that writes about the Amish. The stories are filled with love, God, and usually some suspense. I haven't heard of a lady that hasn't EATEN them up after the first read.
Were any of the Richard Peck books good? I'm going to join a teacher reading group and the books for the next couple months are: The Invention of Hugo Cabret: A Novel and The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. So there are some ideas :)
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Work and the Glory series by Gerald Lund. You have to kind of be committed to get into them b/c there are 9 thick volumes but I learned SO much about church history that I didn't know I didn't know! Ha. Another one of my favorites is Janette Oke. She writes historical fictions and she has a ton. They are all easy reads. My favorite from her is her Love Comes Softly series. Happy Reading!
Cari and I apparently read the same stuff! I agree about the Work and the Glory series and I also like Janette Oke books I also like Jennifer Chivarini - she writes the Elm Creek Quilters books and there is another author whose name escapes me right now - but she writes murder mysteries with a "quilt" theme - maybe I shoild actually work on some of my quilts rather then just reading about someone elses!
I have found that I tend not to lean towards books I hear women typically speak of. I'll still share some of my favorites just in case.
My absolute fav book is "The Greatest Salesman in the World" by Og Mandino. It's a very short, yet life altering book set in the time of Christ which shares scrolls to live your life by. EXCELLENT.
Another fav was "Abraham Lincoln" by Benjamin P. Thomas. It's a great biography written for the average person interested rather than a scholarly view.
A good old classics, "The Catcher in the Rye", "To Kill a Mockingbird",
I've enjoyed any book by Alice Walker- "Third Life of Grange Copeland" was probably my fav but I also liked "Color Purple".
Years ago my great aunt gave me the book, "Written by Herself" -edited by Jill Ker Conway. It's a collection of autobiographies of American Women throughout history. I haven't read it all but have enjoyed learning a bit about some of the many women who have influenced society such as Gloria Steinem, Maya Angelou, Harriet Ann Jacobs, etc...
Okay- I'll stop there.... Enjoy!
Thanks for the great suggestions! I will be busy reading for a while now.
Mark and I read The Work and The Glory series together several years ago, before Grant. It was our Friday night entertainment :)
Haven't read much lately, besides the Ensign and Martha Stewart Living. Wish I could suggest something.
