Great Grandmothers

I was so fortunate to grow up with a grandma nearby and another we visited often. I was always very close to Mimi, my grandmother who lived in the same town I grew up in. I can so clearly see her, hear her and feel her. There is not a holiday I don't remember my grandparents being a part of. I loved it. My Grandma Mildred who lived in Utah held an equally special place in my heart, we would visit at least once a year. She was always beautiful and smelled of perfume. I often marvel at how posterity comes intertwined with our life. It surprises me I'm not more interested in doing family history or genealogy; I know someday the time will be right. These women who were a part of my parent's life and then mine have eternal blessings, I think they are smiling above.

Both my grandmothers have passed on. Mildred, sadly too soon before her time. When Mimi died each of the grandchildren got to pick some treasures. I knew when I chose mine that if I ever had a baby girl they would go in her room.

I have met both of Mark's grandmothers. Lois moved to Oregon in her later years where she passed away. Earlier this month we traveled to Utah to celebrate Mark's Grandma Lee's 90th birthday. She is a vibrant, energetic woman and I am happy Grant and Grace have gotten to spend time with her.

I look at Gracie and wonder what bits and pieces she has inherited from these women. When Mark and I were married in the Portland temple, the reflecting mirrors were beautiful as we could see one another going on and on- representational of past posterity, future and eternity. There they were in us; these women who lived and paved a way for my little family and our future.

Aren't they beautiful? A part of my life, a part of Grace's, hanging in her room.

This is a lovely post. I agree with all my heart about grandmothers...mine and the ones to my own children. Their gifts truly do continue on in us.

What a blessing for your family to have such perfect pictures!

I love old pictures -- your grandmas are beautiful (and have beautiful names). Do you think some day our children's children will be posting our senior pictures for their friends to see? I think I prefer the styling of the grandmothers than I do to my 1993 style.

They are beautiful. The impact our mother and our mother's mothers have on us transcends space and time. My girls middle names are after their grandmothers and I hope it will help them remember the beautiful qualities they have inherited from them.

Sweet post, gave me a few moments of reflection.

I loved your grandma Mary! I don't know if we ever had a different primary pianist--she played the piano the day I was baptized (back in the day of Stake Baptisms). She has a special place in my heart--when I substitue for the piano in primary, I think of her.

What beautiful photos to treasure! Having them hung in your home will give your lots of opportunities to talk about them with your children. What better way to carry on their legacy...
