One Very Messy Day

Yesterday morning was great. Yesterday afternoon was one big mess. It all started when Grant entered the backyard. He often goes out to play while I'm in doing stuff around the house. I always check on him. The following pictures are a series of events progressing on each check. Keep in mind this is the FIRST of many messes, so my tolerance level was high, enough so I thought it was kind of funny, so I took pictures.

It started out so innocently with some new orange caution cones and some old trusty trucks. The cones are set up to caution anyone from coming to the deck (it had earlier been covered in sand, which he was told to clean up).

Now, we have water involved. He was taking truck loads of water over to clean the deck and water the bulb he found and planted in the grass...can you see the digger?

Well, the water had to come from somewhere. Next thing I know the faucet is on full blast and this is what I found. I'm not joking, he was laying and rolling in the water/mud!

At least he was having fun?!

Can you see how dirty his feet are?

Maybe I shouldn't of done that?

Flash forward a couple hours later upstairs. I'm talking on the phone with my sister Diana (it was birthday yesterday) and Grant asked if he could get the paints out and show me how to make a design. I said no, because they were messy (we're talking bottles of tempera paint). He totally disregards me and starts squirting globs of paint onto a Lysol wet wipe (this was an experiment the other day, it actually does make cool designs). It happened within minutes, nice large dollops of bright red tempera leading the way way on our carpet to the bathroom. This is where I just about lost it, no tolerance for pictures of this. Grant asked me how many days I would stay mad.

The last messes of the day were mild: Experiments with hotel shampoos in his bathroom sink, donut on the couch and usual toys. Let's hope today is a little cleaner for Mom's sanity.

Yeah, I would not have been a happy camper either. I'm sure with your red dirt that Grant has a section of "play" clothing and "going to town" clothing. I'll put a word in for your sanity today.

What fun! (the first mess) Trevin did the same thing today in the backyard. :)

As for the second mess (the one indoors)...Oh my--did you get it out of your carpet??? YIKES!?!?

I'm all for messes. If they're OUTSIDE! :)

The first mess looks fun...and easy to pick up.

The second mess...not so much. It's good to hear I am not the only one who has lost tolerance. I haven't experienced that with Tanner but Lexi...she's a different story, and lets give Tanner some time...

Sorry, that was hilarious, a lot because I can relate to that! And paint on the carpet!!!! I would have been so upset. Did you get it out? I loved the pictures. The one of Grant stamping in the mud is great!

Oh my goodness....that looks like pure childhood heaven. I remember doing the very same thing and my mom hosing us off out back. You're great for letting him play like that now and then. The paint is another story. :)

Must be something with the age and getting a new sibling. I have a friend who's 4 year old took a permanent marker and drew circles all over their brand new leather couches (she had a new sibling). I also babysat a family who's kids took a permanent marker to their(not mine) walls, linoleum, couches etc.- the mom just got remarried. I think maybe the kids just want a way to vent stress by being artists in a BIG way!

Oh MY GOSH!!! The tempera paint story was killing me!!!!!!!! I can't believe it!! One time I read a story on how this girl's daughters drew a line of toothpaste all across the hallway to show their mom not go past that with the vacuum cleaner into their messy room! (bran new carpet) I have not had the privilege of experience this devastating of a mess...though, little boys will give anyone their fair share!! AND UM.....your girl is coming alone beautifully! My goodness, my goodness. :)
