This & That...a very long post

Lots of things happening, life seems to be busy, busy! I am going to ramble on a bit as to jot down some thoughts....

Earlier this week my cousin sent me this old photograph (in order) of me, Andrea and Courtney. There are several things I love about it. First is portrays exactly how our get togethers at Mimi and Granddad's house were; full of joy and play with cousins. Dress up was the best and as you can see the oldest (Andrea) got to wear the fanciest most sought after dress, while Courtney and I were left with the peasant skirts, but ornately decorated with jewels (notice my gold gloves).

Second, I looked at myself probably around age five or six and saw some Grant in me! When Grant was a baby everyone thought he looked like my side of the family and as he's grown older he has become I think (and other have commented) a little Mark. I think if Grant's hair grew and had some curl to it, with just the right smirk....there is quite the resemblance! What do you think? (click to enlarge)
Thanks Courtney for sending me this and having my heart full of fond memories and family.

Baby Update:

Things are going well. I feel good, tired, but good. I am optimistic yet scared sometimes. As Mark was assembling the crib he looked at me and said, We're too old to be having another baby-somewhat jokingly. I don't feel too old, but I must admit it's been a while since a newborn and I wouldn't be completely honest if I felt a little anxious sometimes. Grant and I have a rhythm and that is soon to be disrupted by something so joyous I sometimes can't stop thinking about it. But, this new addition no matter how wonderful will bring some changes to our lives that have caused me to reflect. This upcoming year will be interesting to see how it unfolds and how our family grows together.

As most young children Grant is always asking what my favorite this or that is. Mom, what's your favorite car that I have? Mom, what's the happiest thing that ever happened to you? Mom, when were you the most sad? Mom, who is your favorite person? Mom, what's your most favorite place? You get the picture. Often when our conversations revolve around favorite persons we discuss family and how we love each other so much and when the baby comes we'll love her just the same. Lately I must have used the term, family first as Grant has repeated it several times to me. In the bathroom this morning he asked me, Mom, what's the only thing that matters? It made me think and before I could answer he said, family first. I reflected and had to agree and said yes, our family and being a good person who loves is what matters most in this life. Something I've been taught and have come to know for myself that our purpose here is all about that.... how grateful I am of that knowledge and that my son can know too.

I think there will be plenty of love in this house for this baby girl...we can't wait to welcome her.

Here are some latest nursery items...it's getting there:
Bedding:

Prints:

Things are coming along with the baby's room. It's been fun gathering things, going through things and start organizing. The nursery is painted pink and yellow, Mark and my dad put up a chair rail and I wanted to go with a more vintage theme. I have some old doll clothes my Mimi made, an old quilt, my mom's old doll, a blanket my Grandma B knitted....so that's kind of where it all started. (On the top print, the baby's name will be there...that's not it). The rocker should be arriving any day now.

Diaper Bag:

Hangers??
I am looking for some wooden hangers to hang some vintage baby clothes on. Something similar to this, but without the drawing on it. Just plain and simple. I've searched...anyone know where I can get some?

Letters:
Does anyone have any fun suggestions with letters. I am thinking of doing something with baby's name and have seen lots of ideas; canvas letters, wood letters, etc... Any cute ideas?

When things get assembled more I will post some picutres.

My Boy:

The other day I gave Grant the old camera to keep him busy during the photo shoot and I was impressed with some of his shots (to be posted later), but thought this was fun...he got several of me in action!

And...a few from today:

Sounds like such a cute nursery and how fun to have a girl this time! I loved Grant's picture and would love to see more. I think it's great you give him the chance to be artistic as well.

Love to hear your thoughts. It's always nice to get them jotted down. What great photos! The nursery looks adorable. Things are going to change, but what a great change, huh! So excited for you all. I was just transfering VHS to DVD and came across the video we all (Amy, Julia, Mark, Aaron) made for the U-ward talent show. It brought back a flood of memories.

I remember that video Cami's talking about (is that weird??). It was HILLARIOUS! I love the picture GW took--can't wait to see the rest of them. Can't wait to meet Diana Jr. either :)

Thanks for sharing what is swirling around in your head. Change always effects us no matter how good or bad it is. I love how thoughtful Grant it--always inquisitive but in a thoughtful manner.

I just saw wooden hangers at Shopko yesterday. They weren't child sized though.

I still need to email you a picture of the idea for hanging the vintage dresses. I think it would be so cute.

I love the prints that you purchased!

The photo of you, Andrea, and Courtney was just classic. So fun!! Yes, I definitely see Grant in you.

Lastly, I love the tummy shot of you and Grant!!!

I enjoy your blog and don't know if I have posted comments before (you don't know me). Have you ever thought of doing vinyl lettering for your girls room? Or you could paint 12 x 12 (or whatever sizes you want) canvases and add embellishments with the lettering on top. I have also used fabric to wrap around the canvas...I'm telling you, it is simply adorable. Me and my family did this as a project over Thanksgiving. If you are intersted in seeing photos I will send you a picture. You seem to be very crafty. I bet you could put it together really easily.
Great photos!

I love this post.
Maybe it's because we haven't had time to chat in while and it was great to read your thoughts.

I DO see Grant in that picture of you...a lot.

LOVE the style you decided for the nursery.

Can't wait to see it all finished!

This little girl is something special to have your family to join in to.

Grant's eyelashes are crazy-long and gorgeous!

You're belly pictures are so beautiful! I do see Grant in you. And I am a fan of pink so I love the nursery. Loving the diaper bag choice! Sugarbabies has some cute wood lettering. I think they'd let me take a picture for you...if not I will make a mental note of the brand. I bought white plain and simple wood ones from Target for Tanner's room. I have also used vinyl lettering which I like also. For a picture see 7-20-07 post about Tanner's room.

Grant does look like you! Love the nursery. LOVE the vintage stuff! I'd love to do that too at some point.

On the letters. I got some and covered them with fabrics that I used in the nursery. It was kind of a pain, but they turned out so cute and will be great for "props" when it gets a little warmer outside. Just a suggestion.

I've always thought Grant looks A LOT like you -- and now you have the photos to prove it.

You're nursery is going to be beautiful (as is everything you decorate).

Looks like Grant will be following in your footsteps. I definitely sense photographic talent.

I haven't been by and left comments for a while (though I have been lurking). I had to comment. I, too, love the belly shot. It is so precious. I can't believe the similarities of Grant and yourself. That is wonderful!!

On the letters, I was thinking quilted framed letters. My mother-in-law made a quilt out of her maternity clothes. Maybe something sentimental like that, I don't know. Just a thought.

We are excited for you all. What a wonderful and scary change all at once.

So much fun to read your posts. Grant looks so much like you as a kid, all but the coloring and curls! Good luck with the remainder of the pregnancy, and yes, baby number two will totally mess up the routine, but you'll work it out. With Grant starting kindergarten, it would've all changed anyway. Life rolling along does that!
