Today while driving in the car a Dave Mathews song came on and I was literally taken back ten years to when Mark and I were 'hanging out' (I think only after we were officially engaged did I say 'dating'). The song brought memories so clear; even feelings of that time in life were real and raw. I love it how music can do that....so there I was remembering so vividly being nervous to meet Mark for lunch at American Dream wearing my linen pants, leather sandals a satchel from Ecuador and my hair long and curly....feeling so very Oregonian and proud of it. What a wonderful time in my life that was. I loved college, I loved my friends and then I fell in love. My life revolved around hanging out with Mark, hiking (with Mark, something we did nearly every day in the summer) and whatever U-Ward activity was coming up next. Awesome times!
And as I'm hearing this song while driving Grant to preschool it made me reflect on that moment in my life and what little did I know about how my life would unfold. I would like to think that Mark and I are two different people now, for the better- together. And the life we have created for ourselves; the child we have and the child we are going to have...such a joyous thing.
Here are some scans to remember....(note these are from my attempted scrapbooking...and thus you see why I don't scrap!) Click to enlarge:

Love the flashback! Y'all look so cute together! It really is amazing the feelings a song can bring back to us when it is associated with a special moment or time! :)
So cute pictures. I know what you're saying about music and memories. It's fun to take a walk down memory lane sometimes. It is amazing to see how you have changed.
This was SO fun to look at and read. Now I am anxious to know---does Mark have a tattoo? I can't tell from that picture on the boat. So young and carefree...do you think we would still have jumped on the boat if we knew what kind of ride we were in for? I've wondered before.
Mark does not have a tattoo...living dangerously through stickers! :)
Fun pics! What a great idea...I may steal it!!:}
I love the old pictures!
You two are so CUTE!
I love your story...you can tell how much you are still in love with Mark.
I'm loving all of the writing you are doing lately -- must be in a certain state of mind these days.

I love this. I understand about music and memories. I normally can't see many sibling resemblances but in the second picture it almost could be your little sister...love the "bad boy" sticker :)! I also understand about the scrapbooking issue. I have TONS of cute pictures cut out; some even with zigzag cutters... =)
I loved this! Cute cute. Were you living in U hall? And was Mark's hair dyed or has it just darkened in his old age? And, most importantly, which Dave Matthew's song?
I love seeing old pictures of you and Mark. It reminds me of my first year in the U-wards. You guys were the hottest couple! I remember how every girl was envious of you guys. The way Mark looked at you and treated you had us all swooning! You made me hope that I might find my dream guy in the U-wards too! It is amazing to reflect back and see where life has taken you. How simple life was before and how simply wonderful it is now. Great post!
Seeing this post also brought back many memories for me. Thanks! What great times.
Music and memories!! All too often. That is why I prefer the radio to cds... So many memories pop up, including being 6 years old and sharing a room with all of my sisters in the loft of one of our houses and hearing my older sisters play their music. Your hike and engagement story is a little familiar!! Shawn did the same thing. Guess those Oregon boys are just special that way!!
