Destin, Florida

Seriously...who needs Hawaii when Destin is just a 6 hour drive away!

We had an amazing time at the beach and definitely plan to make this an annual family vacation! It was everything expected: white sand, warm water, perfect weather, yummy restaurants! We even saw dolphins swimming right off shore!

I was a bit worried as the weather forecast said showers the whole weekend, it poured as we left Alabama and was raining when we got there, but cleared up enough to hang out on the beach that afternoon and the rest of the weekend was perfect in most every sense. The vacation rush of people were gone, we walked over to the beach in the morning, spent a couple hours went back to the hotel and did stuff around the city (shopped, Gulfarium, eat, church on Sunday) then back to the beach in the afternoon and evening!

I have many pictures to share of course, but I'll just start with these for today!

Grant's two favorite things to do at the beach by far were 1) play in the waves (fight them as he said) and 2) play in the sand.

The first time at the beach he was a bit apprehensive about the ocean...I guess really his only exposure has been the Oregon coast, where you dare to even dip your toes in. Once Mark started wading and swimming out there Grant got a bit braver and soon you could hear him laughing and screaming all the way back on the sand. He loved the crashing waves against him and at times got "swallowed by a wave!" as he would tell many people during the trip.

We attempted a few sand castles, but Grant was more content just digging and pretending to build things here and there and then destroy it. We buried him in sand once and he thought that was funny. I was happy relaxing on shore, sometimes dipping in the water and collecting what few shells there were.

It was so great just being together!

The only snapshot of me on the trip. I'm really not scowling, just relishing a hug from my boy.

If you are in the vicinity to Destin or any beach on the Gulf Coast....I would highly recommend going there...now!

I am so excited to see pictures -- it looks so beautiful and peaceful. I can't imagine a beach like that.

I love to see pics of you too -- beautiful and peaceful.

Yay! I'm glad you had a beautiful time and I'm glad you're home! I've been checking your blog all day just knowing the pics of that glorius beach were coming soon. Thanks for not letting me down. I need to see what I can't feel...maybe next year. We love our southern beaches! :)

I've been checking all throughout the day awaiting this post. Wow--it is gorgeous! It it REALLY better than Hawaii, though? I agree with Amy that the picture of you is wonderfully relaxing and full of love.

For some reason I thought you were going to be gone longer. Definitely looks like fun. One more reason to live in the South. Definitely can't go swimming in the ocean in Washington. I have a friend who just bought a house in Destin. Maybe we will have to go visit.

I am SO glad you guys enjoyed it! Like we told you before, it is our all-time favorite place to go on vacation, and the timing is just great... warm but not HOT, not too many people, it's something we've looked forward to for the past four years! Your pictures inspire me, I'll get a little braver when we're there in a couple of weeks!

I'm so jealous!! I can't believe I have to wait another 5 months before I get to go on a sunny vacation! Maybe I should plan on going with you next year if you're making this an annual thing.

Looks like a great time.

It always amazes me how the simplest things make kids happy. Forget the big expensive toys, the paper and box gets more playing time.

I can't wait to see the rest of the photos!

What a beautiful vacation spot. Some of these pictures should be on postcards or posters advertising this city. I love the one of you and grant. You all look so tan. Glad you had fun.

Ok, so you'd think I would have saved your e-mail address by now, but I haven't. I need to get a meeting together about the Christmas Festival Photo Op and was wondering if you'd be available to meet one of the evenings of Sept. 25 or Oct. 2. Let me know if one of those works!

Wow Destin totally looks dreamy Kim. To what airport is it closest to? I just love that crystal teal water.
