Friday Fun

The ilovephotography blog is a great place to get some good photo tips. Tip number one suggests to lower your camera to half the height of the subject. I certainly don't think about this every time I take a picture, but 90 percent of the time I am squatting and getting down to level with my subject. I think the way you angle your camera and level your camera can help with the composition of a picture. Try lots of different ways; sitting, squatting, standing, stand on a chair and look down at your subject, lay down...find any different point of view that seems fun. Give it a try!

Here I'm pretty level with Grant.

Slightly lower.

I tend to like the "angled" frame, where I tilt my camera...notice the brick in back is not all horizontal now.

Switching the angle in which you shoot can yield some of the most interesting photos. My favorite as of late, taking shots from above.

And of course, close ups...I'm always right there in his face...head to head.

Lastly I am laying on the ground here to get the close up of the ground in front of the subject, another one of my favorite angles.

Hope this was in any way helpful. I was wanting to get out and take a bunch of photos and have some fun with this, but alas we have reached the 104 degree mark today...thus a popsicle was bribery for my subject to stand outside.

Happy Friday! Have a GREAT weekend, doing anything fun?

I love that you add photos to the tips you give, I am a visual person and it helps to have something to look at when I am trying to make something (thus the illustrated cookbooks in my kitchen). I am just about to edit my almost 200 photos from a wedding yesterday, my dad let me borrow his macro lens and with your tips and inspiration, I hope I come up with some good ones. Maybe I'll post some.

I am sorry it is so hot down there! It reminds me of the 115+ heat we had in Mesquite, it's a great time to invent new popsicle flavors though!

Thank you so much for this post. I am a friend of Kim H. I pop in on your blog from time to time. I love your Macro Monday's. Grant is just a sweetie...but I am partial to the blondie blue eyed variety! I enjoy the photos you post on your blog and you truly inspire me! Julia

I like how you do the comparison shots. I take a lot of pictures from an above angle and tilted, but I never really thought to try from a lower level. Will be fun to try. Thanks for the tip!

I love the second shot. Was Grant posing himself? He seems to have so much life and spark in that one but even the third with his hands on his hips :)! I've done a couple of these different levels, looking up with subject higher and laying on ground, but your's are always better :)!

I'm addicted to above the head shots with the portrait lens.
