As I was brushing my teeth this evening getting ready to out for a walk, noticing how horribly my roots are showing and wondering how much longer I can go without it looking too bad before getting my hair done again, something glistened in the light....I leaned in, looked a little closer and there growing right from the scalp of my head amidst all those dark brown roots was a....I don't think I can even type it....could it be? I did let out a gasp. I'm not convinced. I plucked out this seemingly light colored strand, and quickly went upstairs in search for a black piece of paper to put it against. My first thought, could I be going back to blond like I was as a child? We are after all living in Alabama where the sun is quite abundant! It doesn't look too g...I can't even type it, I would rather say it looked white.
Like I say I'm not convinced of anything just yet, maybe a little in denial. I haven't heard my friends talk about this subject before and really, come on...I'm only thirty something. Please...some words of comfort....anyone? Amy, if you were posting I know you'd have some words of wisdom!
I think I may be making a hair appointment very soon.

My moment came while driving in the car. You know how it is when you're in direct sunlight, and suddenly you can clearly see all those unwanted hairs that you couldn't detect under your bathroom lighting? Well, I had noticed a stray gray here and there, so as I drove I was using the rear view mirror and excellent natural lighting to pluck the few I could find. Then, it happened. I flipped my hair to the other side from where I normally part it, and I found a clump of gray hairs right in the front. Yes, a clump, as in - give me a couple years and I will have a skunk stripe. Feeling better yet?
I found my first gray hair a few days before my 20th birthday. I freaked, but yet knew it was coming. All of my siblings started getting gray hairs very young too. My only consolement is that my maternal grandmother had the most beautiful head of white hair. And my father does too. I wouldnt mind that, but I would like to wait until I at least have grandchildren.
I constantly pluck the ones that are on my part. And I even had my hair highlighted recently to hide them for awhile, I just noticed that I can see them again poking out of my part, ugh!
Thankgoodness we live in a day when we can hide the true color of our hair, or at least mask it for a little while.
A couple of months ago Aaron pointed a couple gray hairs out to me. I was also in denail and kinda still am. I too have pulled out the ones I have found. I guess I think that is going to keeps them from coming back or at least slow them down. Sorry I happened to you. I don't wish that on anyone.
My family is full of early g#$@er's so I have had them forever. I think the bright side could be that you have to get your hair cut and colored and mabey a cute weave more often. Hey!! Throw in a shampoo to make you feel better. If all else fails make an "unautherized purchase" as my sister in law would say.
I hear that for every one you pull out, you grow three more :o)
I've had those odd colours since being married.
I've heard g...hairs are a sign of wisdom and you are one of the brightest people I know so it only comes with being you ;)! We will love you whatever color your hair is :)!

Hi Kim,
My first white hair showed up when I was 18. Yup. 18. I think I have about 6 now. My grandmother started going white before 18. You're not alone. Being that I'm in my 20's still, I've taken the fall long before you. Feel better?

I also have found a grey hair in the last little while. I am just giving it up to stress, not age :) Thank goodness for hair color for when that time really comes. Jeff's dad was like under thirty when he went grey. Why is it that men look so distinguished and women just look old?
Ummmm at first you had me seriously worried with the title and all, then I was laughing. Not at you, mostly in relief and at how you couldn't even spell it. Funny, not the hair, the reaction. I'm sure I'm not far behind. :)

do women gray younger than men? my mom has been 'highlighting/coloring' her hair for years and my dad's hair just recently turned 'salt-n-pepper'
I haven't noticed any grey hairs yet...but I certainly do need a trip to the Clip n' Curl for my hair.
The lucky thing is...you would be beautiful even with purple hair!
