I just posted yesterday that Grant hadn't asked for a pet up to this point. Well, that changed yesterday afternoon. I guess the knocking on wood didn't work. Mark and I never talk about pets, Grant's oblivious to my blog posts, so why- just the day I say it, he asks for one.....and as I'm typing this he is saying, "Mom, I really want a cat, please mom, please!".
Maybe it's because one of the books we checked out from the library this week is, "The Perfect Pet" about these pigs who try to find the perfect pet and end up with a cat. He's been telling me a cat will be a perfect pet, luckily I have the excuse that Mark is very allergic to them (which is true).
The funny thing is, is that Grant has always liked cats. My friend Kathy gave him a beany baby kitty when he was very young and that was "the" stuffed animal, his comfort-not a blanket, but a "kitty". He loved and loved it (and if I had my laptop here I would post you a picture). Kathy sent the matching baby kitty for his b-day a few years ago as well. He got over his "kitty" around 2 1/2, but still likes cats. He's always liked "Halloween Kitty", my in laws cat, and whenever we go to a house with a cat he always pets them and smiles.
Sorry Grant. No pets in this house hold, so let's stop asking. Any non living suggestions? I thought the turtle was great!

A fish is alive, but it might be totally easy to keep, but I would hold out as long as you can. Mike has already told me that he wants to get John a dog at some point. Um, I don't think so.

Yeah, we aren't a pet household either. My kids have begged for the past seven years for something. We've had fish at two seperate times which we have always managed to kill. Could it be that none of us want to clean the fish bowl? It is amazing how long a fish can live in nasty water and be seldomly fed yet still swim around for a year or so. Lately the boys have been wanting a geko. Ah, NO!! We even have a dog kennel at our house and I have told them that that is where they will go if they are naughty. Birch and I always tell them that one of the beauties about being a parent is that we get to make certain decisions...like NOT getting a pet. I always remind them that when they are a daddy or a mommy they can make their own decisions. Not that that zips the lips about the pet thing.
Abby LOVES animals so much that she has an pretend dog named 'Yellow'. On a daily basis, we have to feed, take potty, wears a seat belt in the car and put her dog in time out when naughty. It is very tiring!! :) but grateful I don't have to pick up poop!
Actually my mom has great dog named Pepper that does not shed and rarely barks. He is a dream dog and Abby adores him (lately she is pretending that she is Pepper's baby and Yellow is her sister...should I be worried?).
We will probably give in one day....
pLEASE Don't buy a mousE!
Yeah, don't buy mini turtles either. Harriet died a couple days ago and Harry is on his way out too. What a waste!
a few years ago, I bought a fish tank of fake fish for Jeremy.
There's a light you can turn on and bubbles you can turn on too- it makes the fake fish move around as though they were swimming in the aquarium. Jeremy pretended they were real...
