I wonder if Grant is pondering what happened this morning....
One of the items on Grant's Christmas list is a "purple piano". I have no idea where this idea came from and purple??? So, we have purchased a cheap keyboard along with some other items he wanted and stuck them in our walk in closet in the bedroom (which does not have a door on it). We have told Grant not to go in there (he likes to play in there of course with all our shoes, etc...) This morning I got done with the shower and was getting ready-Grant had come into the room to see what I was up to....He forgot about the not going into the closet and took some cars in there and I forgot about the presents. He walks out of the closet, keyboard in hand and exclaims, "Santa came!"
I was totally taken off gaurd and didn't know what to say, but "Grant!" as I took it away. He was noticeably embarrassed and ran into his room. He kept his eyes closed for over 10 minutes and wouldn't look at me. I have always told myself that it doesn't matter if my kids knew Santa was real or not. This would of been the perfect opportunity to explain he is not real and what the tradition is.....but then my mind flashed to Christmas morning...I couldn't dash that excitement this early on in his life! I asked what he saw in there and he said a piano. I said an actual piano or just a box? I then continued to LIE and say that it was just a box that Nana had sent some things in and that he shouldn't go in the closet because there are surprises for him for his birthday and Christmas that we don't want him to see. I'm hoping his little three year old (four next week!!) mind has just forgotten about the whole thing already and he will still be just as surprised on Christmas morning. We will be definitely taking the keyboard OUT of the box and just wrap it in a bow. Better find some better hiding spots too.

Yes, keep the Santa dream alive for all of us with parents who robbed us of it! Love the bark shot, so cool.
Kim,
My parents had a closet. Except I was old enough to listen and NOT go in---even though I did go in. I also left a couple personal belongings in the closet which gave it away I'd been in! Hopefully he will not remember (but it is Grant, and doesn't he have a super good memory?)

Oh, Kim! The same thing happened to me yesterday. I had been keeping John's hockey table in the back of my car, not thinking that John would ever look back there, but when he crawled in the car after church, he stood up on his seat and looked back there. He said, "Look! My hockey game!" I told grabbed him and buckled him in, telling him that there wasn't a hockey game back there and he could check when we got home with his dad. When we got home I sent him inside to get his dad so they could check and I quickly transferred the table from the back of my car to the back of Mike's truck. When John got back to check he seemed a little dumbfounded that the back of my car was empty. I'm hoping he'll forget about it too, but he has a memory of an elephant.

I wouldn't worry, I'm sure Grant 100% believed your story about Nana sending presents in the box. I think it was one of those times when lying is appropriate. Even if he remembers the box on Christmas morning he won't think that the piano was in there.
I have Gage's present in my closet and I have now covered it in a blanket. :) You should put this story in a journal.
